In their first match since the 2009 World Championships in Rome, Italy World´s number four USA gained a well-earned 13-9 victory against sixth-ranked Germany in a friendly match at Potsdam, Germany. In front of a full-capacity crowd, left-handed player Monsees and Tony Azevedo scored three goals each for the North Americans, who will take part in a four-nation tournament in Hungary this weekend.

Head coach Terry Schroeder´s players will stay in Germany for common training until Monday to prepare for the Volvo Cup tournament in Hungary. The Germans are preparing for their upcoming World League against group leader Italy to be held Tuesday night in Berlin.

Local organiser OSC Potsdam aroused compliments by a welcome for both teams and all officials at the Bornstedt Crown Estate, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It belongs to the ensemble of world-renowned palaces and gardens of Sanssouci, lying on the Lake Bornstedt, only 400 meters away from Sanssouci Palace.
